Here is an invitation I recently completed for an event with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, The printing turned out very nice. Printing is always a finicky beast in the world of design, timelines, price, quality are always a variable, fluctuating all the time. A friend of mined turned me on to this company called 5000cards and they are a designers saving grace. The whole process is done completely online, and you get updates via email on where they are in the process, you may pay a tad bit more but their basic paper stock is very thick and very high quality. Also they do EVERYTHING, so if you are in need some nice business cards or just postcards, check em out, I think I’ve used them 5 times this month.

My favourite part of branding is the process. You end up trying a whole bunch of executions before landing on one the client is thrilled about. I just completed this project, with the logo the client chose at the top. I show both because I wanted to show a bit of the process, I tried something completely different with the bottom one and really liked how it feels. The client didn’t feel the same, which is totally fine, so we tried a few new ideas and she ended up being very happy with the top one, which I like as well. Young Fabulous is a really slick, high end children’s boutique opening up in LaSalle soon.

Just want to give a heads up on things I’ve been working on. Due to the success of my WINDSOR ONTARIO shirts, and hearing how much Windsorites enjoy rockin’ a local shirt and love supporting this wonderful town, I have decided to take it one step further and launch a new brand called ‘ON WINDSOR’. You may have noticed the ‘Momentum Rose’ graphic around town and on the downtownWO.com blog. I have new t-shirts in the works and a bunch of other products coming, including, hats, silkscreen posters, bags and a whole ton of free buttons. Most of the new products will feature the ‘Momentum Rose’ as a focal point and then spin off other products once it is recognizable. The new line of t-shirts will be available within the next month or s,o as well as a brand new SPOTVIN online store that will sell all the ON WINDSOR products along with some other SPOTVIN creations. I’m really excited about this, check back for more details soon.

One of my favourite Canadian bands tweeted that they needed a new tour poster, I answered and did this illustration. They didn’t end up going with it but I’m happy with it. I really like the grainy texture too.

I thought this was kinda cool. I recently completed some album art for a local band called Michou (see post a few down), anyways, they just released the album in iTunes last week and it’s on the main page. Go buy it, it’s very good!

Downtown WO!

This is pretty exciting, I’ve recently just completed a project for the Downtown BIA. It’s a new website called downtownWO.ca You may recognize that the rose graphic from my t-shirts is in the logo. When we were naming and branding this new project it seemed like a good fit, WO (with the ‘O’ being the rose), this will act as a good recognizable element to help promote Windsor and the downtown core.

This site would not have been created without the help of Accent Media, who did all the back end coding and geeky internety stuff, we worked in collaboration to merge design and fuctionality for a site that is easy to use and nice to look at.

Content will be updated regularly by the DWBIA and by my good friend Tom Lucier.

You’ll notice this is similar to the post a few down, this was an illustration I created for a local band (and good friends) Michou. At the time there were not going to go with it but after a few months decided they liked the style and subject matter. With direction from the band, a few changes were made and I believe has made this a much stronger design. I’m excited about it and they seem to be too. Check out their blog and website, they’ve launched a campaign to release this album called “The Seven Weeks of Michou” where they release new content (video, music, album art) leading up to the album release.

I was looking for an old illustration I did many years back and found a whole ton of stuff I did back in college, way too funny. Here are a few samples. — 1. Apparently this is the type of car we should be driving in 2010, oh god, I think it should be parked right next to my jet pack. — 2. This was a made up logo for a fake sport team, oh the freedom of college and the oodles amount of time spent on one logo. –3. An illustration for a children’s book, I chose The Pied Piper, my favourite illustration was the back page of a bunch of mice drowning, probably not the best subject matter for budding minds. I’ll probably keep posting more now and then.
