Awwwards.com Site of the Day
Today is a good day! A bilingual website we created for the Historica-Dominion Institute to commemorate Sir John A. Macdonald’s birthday was selected as site of the day at awwwards.com. As it was just John A’s 197th Birthday this week, this is a great present.
Congratulations as well go to Chris Benotto for helping with Illustration work and Toby Leftly for building the site. And thanks again to Historica-Dominion for having the vision to create such a fun informative site.
A bit about awwwards.com
Awwwards are the awards that recognize and promote the talent and effort of the best developers, designers and web agencies in the world.
An international jury made up of some of the most important designers, bloggers and Internet agencies, will evaluate each site by means of a strict system of evaluation; scoring it on a scale of 1 to 10 for its Design, Creativity, Usability and Content.
Our goal is to create a meeting point where web developers, designers and agencies across the world can share experiences, inspiration and knowledge: A community that bids for a more accessible, usable and beautiful Internet.
Sir John A. Day
I posted an illustration a few months back of Sir John A. Macdonald (view here) that was the beginning of a much bigger project for the Historica-Dominion Institute to develop an entire campaign. This included a print campaign, (posters, brochures, buttons and t-shirts) as well as a fun scrollable website (in English and French) to help educate Canadians more about their first Prime Minister. Spotvin was hired to create all graphics and site design, including the 1 minute intro Flash animation at the top of the page. This was one of our first projects that really utilized what we do best; illustration, print and web. Have a poke around the site as there is plenty of useful videos and information about Sir John A. including a downloadable party hat. Those are always fun, I’m wearing one right now……you’ll never know. GO TO SITE

AVLIC
We’ve been so busy lately I haven’t had the chance to post any of the recent projects we’ve completed. This site was for the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC) which is a non-profit, professional association for interpreters whose working languages include a sign language. We’re happy with the outcome, very clean and easy site to navigate. Have a look see. avlic.ca

Memory Project DVD Site
Our latest web project has been launched for Toronto’s Historica-Dominion Institute called The Memory Project DVD Site. This acts as a microsite to an initiative where DVD’s are sent to schools across Canada and feature Veterans telling their war stories. I’ve been on a WW2 kick as of late so it’s been really great and educational to work on such an amazing project. Check the site out at www.memoryproject.com/DVD

Windsorite DOT Awesomeness
Ma boy Owen at Windsorite.ca was looking to redesign his incredible website a few months ago and I offered to help im out. If you haven’t been to his site yet, please do yourself a favour and take it for a stroll here, it’s a wonderful resource for all things Windsor. It includes a traffic and construction guide as well as all breaking news for all major happenings, the photos from last weeks “Independence Day” storm are amazing.
He was looking for a fresh new layout where the page was broken up in different areas making the most important content stand out, I believe we were successful. He has also added plenty of coding magicry and designy goodness, which makes this site one of the most user friendly and informative sites in our city.
Border City Brawlers Website
What do you do when some bad ass roller derby ladies ask you do design a site for them?….you do it!, no questions asked. I’m kidding, we weren’t bullied, we were more than happy to provide our services to launch a new site for Windsor’s newest derby league, The Border City Brawlers. A big part of the fun was being able to take all of our own photography to use throughout the site, which you can see on their flickr page. We especially like the header, it turned out quite nicely, note the slight shimmer on the helmet. Also, thanks to Accent Media, who did all of the programming and building of this unique project. Pathway to Potential Website
We’ve been doing lots of websites lately which is really good, what I like is every single design has its own unique challenges based on the clients needs. This is our recent launch, pathwaytopotential.ca . I did the design and my coding/web gurus at Accent Media did the backend coding and development, and I feel it turned out very nice, plus the client seems very happy. If you have have a website you want to bring to life, give us a call, we’re happy to chat.
Accent Media
I’m very excited about this website, it was for my good friend and fellow business partner in The House, Toby Lefty and his company Accent Media. The graphic above this post doesn’t do the site justice, go check it out at ‘accentmedia.ca‘ We collaborated on this for many months and had many other designs but we are very happy with the outcome and ease of navigation for the scrolling site. I designed the graphics and Accent Media did the coding and development.
Downtown WO!
This is pretty exciting, I’ve recently just completed a project for the Downtown BIA. It’s a new website called downtownWO.ca You may recognize that the rose graphic from my t-shirts is in the logo. When we were naming and branding this new project it seemed like a good fit, WO (with the ‘O’ being the rose), this will act as a good recognizable element to help promote Windsor and the downtown core.
This site would not have been created without the help of Accent Media, who did all the back end coding and geeky internety stuff, we worked in collaboration to merge design and fuctionality for a site that is easy to use and nice to look at.
Content will be updated regularly by the DWBIA and by my good friend Tom Lucier.
